CBI Registers FIR in Disha Salian Death Case, Names Aaditya Thackeray

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a first information report (FIR) in the death case of celebrity manager Disha Salian. The agency has taken over the probe from Mumbai Police, naming several individuals including Aaditya Thackeray and Dino Morea in the FIR, officials said on September 14.

Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 12th floor of a residential building in Mumbai. The FIR registered by the CBI is based on a complaint by Satish Salian, Disha's father. It alleges that she was gang-raped and murdered, and that there was a cover-up involving some police officers. The FIR also names senior police officers who supervised the initial investigation, which is described as faulty.

The complaint includes allegations of suppression, destruction, and fabrication of evidence. It also names Aaditya Thackeray, the then Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, and others as allegedly involved. The FIR states that no one shall be treated as an accused unless the investigating officer finds sufficient grounds to raise reasonable suspicion.

Further, the FIR claims that Disha Salian's mobile phone was possessed and operated by Waze and Aaditya Thackeray after her death. When this fact became public, the police gave an alternative explanation that the phone was reopened only after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The investigation has raised more questions than answers, according to experts.

The CBI's registration of the FIR follows a Bombay High Court order directing Mumbai Police to register the case. The agency is now probing fresh allegations and the circumstances surrounding the death, including the alleged involvement of several prominent individuals and police personnel.
