We take tips seriously. Most stories start with a phone call, an email, or a document in a brown envelope. Here's how to reach us safely.
The editorial address on /contact reaches the assigning editor for the relevant desk. Include: what you saw / know, when, where, who else may know, and whether you can share documents.
#Secure channels
- Signal: request the newsroom Signal number via plain email first. Verify the number out-of-band before sending sensitive material.
- PGP-encrypted email: public key on request.
- SecureDrop: if configured, link at /securedrop. Tor Browser required.
- Postal mail: address on /contact. Use a public letterbox, not a return address.
#What makes a good tip
- Verifiable. Documents, recordings, or named witnesses.
- Specific. Dates, names, places, numbers.
- Public interest. The story matters to readers, not just to one party in a dispute.
- Original. Not already widely reported.
