High Court Refuses Permission for Protest Without Police Hearing

ACCORDING TO POLICE। Delhi High Court has made it mandatory to hear Delhi Police before granting permission to Dr. Raj Shekhawat, president of Karni Sena, for a protest at Jantar Mantar. The court said permission cannot be given without police consent and the next hearing will be on Monday.

High Court's Order on Protest Permission

Dr. Raj Shekhawat, president of Karni Sena, had filed a petition seeking permission for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar against the new rules of the University Grants Commission. He proposed the protest from 10 am to 1 pm on September 6. The court suggested changing the date of the protest and listed the case for hearing before the regular bench on Monday. The police cited security reasons and preparations for the BRICS summit as grounds for denying permission. The petitioner stated that the protest site and the summit venue are different and no procession or march will be taken out during the protest.

Attack on Sanjay Kumar and Police Investigation

During a protest by the Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar, Dalit youth Sanjay Kumar was attacked. According to police, Sanjay suffered a head injury due to a blow during the clash. He was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment, where doctors described the injury as minor. The police medical report did not confirm any skull fracture or serious injury. During the investigation, Suraj Kumar (24) and Swatantra Bhardwaj (21) were issued notices. The police denied allegations of undue influence or interference in the case and said the entire matter has been dealt with strictly according to law and prescribed procedure.
