Supreme Court stays sentence of YouTuber Pahuja, grants interim bail

FIROZABAD। The Supreme Court has stayed the six-month sentence of YouTuber Gulshan Pahuja in a contempt of court case and ordered his release on interim bail.

Stay on sentence and interim bail

The Delhi High Court had convicted YouTuber Pahuja of criminal contempt in May and sentenced him to six months. The court found that during the hearing he made objectionable remarks against the judicial system and compared the courts' arbitrariness to dictatorship. The Supreme Court stayed this sentence and ordered Pahuja's release on interim bail. It was informed on his behalf that he has already spent about 48 days in custody.

The court said that taking any step in such cases can be risky and it is necessary to balance various aspects in decisions related to fireworks.

NSE settlement and IPO preparation

The Supreme Court disposed of petitions by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) against the National Stock Exchange (NSE). This decision came after NSE paid a settlement amount of ₹1,491.21 crore. NSE is preparing for its ₹30,000 crore initial public offering (IPO), which includes the sale of 14.89 crore equity shares by existing shareholders. There will be no new issue in the IPO.

Until the next hearing date of the appeal, we order a stay on the sentence, therefore the appellant (Pahuja) shall be released on interim bail
