Accused in Assault on CJP Worker’s Father Arrested

THEY SAID। CJP had protested for three hours at the Sansad Marg police station demanding the arrest, after which the police assured action within 72 hours.

Incident and Arrest

Neeshu Azad alleged that on June 23, during a protest at Jantar Mantar, his father Sanjay Kumar was assaulted. Sanjay sustained an injury from a blow to the head, but the police dismissed claims of skull fracture or breakage. Sanjay was taken to RML Hospital for medical examination.

Before the arrest, Swatantra spoke to the media in Hasanpur for about three minutes and said no one could harm him. Police stated that Bhardwaj and another accused, Suraj Kumar, were taken into custody at the scene for questioning and that chargesheets will be filed soon.

Allegations and Investigation

Swatantra Bhardwaj had claimed in a viral podcast that he attacked Sanjay’s head and that Sanjay received 60 stitches. Later, he retracted his statement saying it was not an attack but a step taken in self-defense. He said 10-15 people had surrounded him and if he had not acted in defense, the crowd could have beaten him.

Police stated that Sanjay Kumar suffered minor injuries and there was no fracture in the head. Lawyer Rishav Ranjan demanded in a meeting with the police that sections related to attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and SC/ST Act be added to the FIR. The police continue their investigation and legal action has been taken.

Protest and Political Response

CJP protested for three hours at the Sansad Marg police station demanding the arrest of Swatantra Bhardwaj in Delhi.

MP Chandrashekhar Azad was also present at the protest. Union Minister Chirag Paswan expressed concern over the seriousness of the case and said failure to act against the accused would set a bad precedent for the country.
