Water level of Sarayu river nears danger mark in Manjhi

PDDU NAGAR। The water level of the Sarayu river in Manjhi, Saran has rapidly risen close to the danger mark. This has increased the risk of flooding in the surrounding low-lying areas and villagers have become alert.

The rise in water level also threatens the agricultural land in the affected area.

People living in villages along the river have become alert and are searching for safe places. Livestock owners are also moving their cattle to safer locations.

On Thursday, a large number of people gathered at Ramghat in Manjhi to see the swollen river water. Villagers said that if the water level continues to rise at this pace, floodwaters could enter many villages.

The rising water level of the Sarayu river has also started affecting agricultural land. Hundreds of acres of fields in the block area have already been affected. Farmers said that if the water level continues to rise, crops will suffer heavy damage.

Villagers have demanded the administration to monitor the river water level and keep preparations ready in advance to deal with possible floods. Currently, people in the riverside areas are keeping a close watch on the river.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain with thunder and lightning on September 3 in Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar.

A low-pressure area formed in northwestern Madhya Pradesh may strengthen further in the next 12 hours and move towards southern Uttar Pradesh and northern Madhya Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, and Sambhal districts.

Five people, including three members of the same family, have died in rain-related incidents in the districts of Chitrakoot, Amethi, and Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.

The water level of the Ganga river is also rising rapidly. In Mokama, Patna, the Ganga is in spate and there is a risk of crossing the highest flood mark. The speed of the water level rise appeared somewhat slower in the data released at 4 pm.

Water has started spreading rapidly in the riverside areas of Siwan along the Ganga. The administration has assured to start boat operations to help the affected people.

Rishikesh Narayan Singh said that he and his team have successfully completed an important project within three days.
