A 16-year-old Aniket drowned while bathing at the waterfall of Ghaggar River in Burjkotiya, Panchkula. He had come out with five to six friends. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and started an investigation.
Police officials said that about five to six youths from Kurali had come to visit near the Ghaggar River located in Burjkotiya. During this, while bathing in the waterfall, 16-year-old Aniket got caught in the strong current of the water and drowned.
The body of the deceased has been sent to the mortuary of the hospital located in Sector-6, Panchkula. The friends who came along informed the police about the incident.
This drowning incident in the Ghaggar River in the village Burjkotiya of Pinjore, Panchkula, happened in an area where several accidents have occurred before. The administration has put up warning boards to caution people, but despite this, young men and women often come here to visit.
Police said that due to rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, the flow of water in the Ghaggar River has increased. Because of the strong current of the river and the waterfall, this area has become dangerous.
According to experts, the speed of a river mainly depends on the slope, the amount of water, the width of the river, and the structure of the valley. When a large volume of water passes through a narrow place and there is a steep slope, the speed of the water increases dangerously.
Some rivers in the world, such as the Congo River in Africa, the Futaleufu River in Chile, the Amazon River in South America, and the Zambezi River in Africa, are known for their strong currents and turbulent rapids. At the Inga Falls on the Congo River, water falls from a height of 96 meters over 15 kilometers, creating a strong current.
In Panchkula as well, due to monsoon and rainfall on the mountains, the flow of rivers and streams increases, raising the risk of floods and accidents.
