Dasun Shanaka Scores Fastest Century in 39 Balls

In the 25th match of the Caribbean Premier League 2026, Dasun Shanaka made history by scoring a century in 39 balls. Playing for Saint Kitts and Nevis, he played a stormy innings of 121 runs against Saint Lucia Kings.

Shanaka reached his half-century in 24 balls and completed the next 50 runs in just 15 balls. He scored 121 runs in 43 balls, making the fastest century in CPL, breaking the previous record of Andre Russell who scored a century in 40 balls in 2018.

Thanks to his explosive innings, Saint Kitts and Nevis scored 235 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs while batting first. His shots reached every corner of Warner Park Ground.

In response, the entire Saint Lucia Kings team was bowled out for 98 runs in 13.5 overs. Opener Tim Seifert scored 50 runs, while no other batsman reached double digits.

Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots won the match by 137 runs. Jeremiah Louis took 5 wickets for 10 runs, while Wanindu Hasaranga and Ashmed Ned took 2 wickets each.

Shanaka became the eighth player in the world to achieve both a century and 100 wickets in T20 cricket. The list includes names like Shane Watson, Ravi Bopara, Glenn Maxwell, and Will Jacks.

He was recently included in Sri Lanka's T20 and ODI teams. Proving the selectors' decision right, he scored this record century in the CPL.

Shanaka batted for 9.3 overs and hit 8 fours and 12 sixes in his innings. Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer and Tim Seifert had also scored centuries in 40 balls, but Shanaka surpassed their record.
