Rajasthan Congress has suspended two former councillors from the party for six years in connection with the alleged assault on Bikaner district president Madan Gopal Meghwal. This action was taken just before the municipal corporation elections and the controversy escalated after the video of the incident went viral on social media.

During the inauguration of the Pragashi office in Ward 50 of Bikaner Municipal Corporation, former councillors Deepak Arora, Mohit Arora, and some others allegedly assaulted and behaved rudely with Madan Gopal Meghwal. Congress described this incident as a serious disciplinary violation.

The party has suspended Deepak Arora and Mohit Arora from primary membership for six years with immediate effect. A letter issued by Congress stated that this action was taken after seriously considering Meghwal's complaint.

The municipal corporation elections in Rajasthan are scheduled in two phases on September 9 and 11. This internal party action in Bikaner is considered significant ahead of the elections. It is believed that there will be a tough contest between BJP and Congress in the civic elections.

After the video of the assault on Madan Gopal Meghwal went viral, BJP targeted Congress. Rajasthan BJP wrote on its Twitter handle that the brutal assault on the Bikaner city Congress district president by Congress workers due to dissatisfaction over ticket distribution is highly condemnable.

BJP questioned how a party whose workers resort to violence against their own district president can talk about public interest and the development of the state. BJP also accused Congress of insulting Dalits.

BJP wrote on social media questioning why Rahul Gandhi remains silent on this hooliganism within his own party, while pretending to be a benefactor of Dalits in front of cameras.
