Kia Sorento Features India’s First Hybrid Powertrain and AI Assistant

Kia has introduced a hybrid powertrain in the Sorento SUV for the first time in India. The company started official deliveries from September 4, 2026. This model also includes the Kia AI Assistant with real-time generative AI capabilities.

The hybrid model features a Smartstream 1.6 Turbo GDI engine paired with a 65 PS electric motor that produces 264 Nm of torque. It is coupled with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The other option is a Smartstream 2.2 diesel engine delivering 193 PS power and 442 Nm torque. Both powertrains offer Eco, Normal, Smart, and Sport drive modes.

The Kia Sorento is the first SUV in its segment to offer an all-wheel drive (AWD) option with a hybrid powertrain. Both hybrid and diesel powertrains come with AWD, including terrain modes like Snow, Sand, and Mud that help improve traction and torque distribution in various conditions.

The SUV is built on Kia’s global N3 platform. It measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, has a wheelbase of 2,815 mm, and a height of 1,785 mm with roof rails. According to the company, it is the longest and widest SUV in its segment, offering more space across all three rows.

The front features Kia’s digital tiger face, crystal cube LED projection headlamps, and star map LED DRLs. Additionally, satin chrome finished skid plates, beltline, and integrated rear spoiler are included on the front and rear. The SUV offers 18-inch sporty crystal cut alloy wheels and 19-inch premium crystal cut alloy wheels as options.

The cabin is premium and technology-rich. It includes a 31.24 cm (12.3-inch) HD touchscreen navigation cockpit and a 12.3-inch HD digital instrument cluster with a panoramic curved display panel. Dual-pane panoramic sunroof and 64-color ambient mood lighting are also provided.

The Sorento is available in 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. The first row features 10-way power driver and co-passenger seats, lumbar adjustment, relaxation power seats, driver seat ergo function, and integrated memory system. The second row has ventilated seats, a special feature. The 6-seater model has captain seats, while the 7-seater has 60:40 split rear seats, both with slide, recline, and walk-in functions. The third row offers 50:50 split-folding seats and rear AC vents for the second and third rows.

The India-spec Sorento introduces the Kia AI Assistant globally for the first time. It provides information based on real-time search and can answer follow-up questions in normal conversation. Hands-free use is possible with the wake word “Hey Kia.” It can also control vehicle functions like air conditioning and windows.

The cluster and infotainment system offer a total of 9 themes based on Disney, Marvel, and Pixar, allowing customers to customize dashboard colors, animations, and screen layouts. From December 2026, the Kia Connect Store will launch, where customers can purchase selected feature-on-demand services.

For safety, the Sorento comes standard with 7 airbags, while the top variant includes a total of 10 airbags with additional rear side and center side airbags. It also features a 360-degree camera, blind view monitor, 12 parking sensors, five radars, and a rear camera with dynamic guidelines.
