BRICS Summit Opens in New Delhi with Focus on Global Governance

The 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit began in New Delhi with a focus on inclusive global governance and strengthening multilateralism. The summit brings together heads of member countries and partner nations to discuss strategic cooperation and future growth, officials said.

The summit's first closed session, scheduled for 2:35 pm, will concentrate on "Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism," while an earlier open session at 10:50 am will address "Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth."

China's representative, Xu, stated that China would work with India to follow the "strategic guidance" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping, handling bilateral relations from a "strategic height and long-term perspective."

Malaysia is participating as a BRICS Partner Country, attending the summit on the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. The summit is the highest-level platform of BRICS, bringing together heads of member states and partners to discuss key global issues.

To manage the summit, Delhi Police have imposed traffic restrictions and diversions across several key stretches of the city. Restrictions will be in effect from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm, with additional traffic controls from 8:15 pm to 11 pm on September 12. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.

Metro train services will start early at 6 am on all lines to facilitate the smooth movement of students appearing for examinations and the general public during the summit.

Experts note that the summit aims to enhance cooperation among member countries and properly handle differences to promote mutual success and good-neighbourliness. The discussions are expected to shape the agenda for future collaboration and global growth.
