Mayawati Links Nephew’s Future to Father-in-Law’s Retirement

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has tied the political future of her nephew Akash Anand to the retirement of his father-in-law from politics. She said the party would consider restoring Anand’s responsibilities only if his father-in-law quits political life, highlighting concerns over Anand’s divided loyalties.

Mayawati questioned whether Akash Anand, whose personal and family interests she said appeared to outweigh his political career and the party’s interests, could effectively work for the BSP while remaining “double-minded.” She added that Anand’s failure to repost her earlier social media message showed his greater attachment to family ties than to the BSP and its movement.

The BSP chief described Anand’s father-in-law’s decision to retire from politics as a “correct step” taken late. She said the party sought this retirement in the larger interest of the Bahujan Samaj Party, its movement, and Anand himself. Mayawati emphasized that people in the party felt Anand should be relieved of all responsibilities until this condition was met.

Anand’s father-in-law announced his retirement from political and social life, stating that if his continued presence harmed the Bahujan mission created by the party’s saints and leaders, he would step aside immediately. He expressed that obeying Mayawati’s directive was paramount, even saying that giving his life for her would be a matter of pride.

The BSP leadership’s concerns reflect a belief that Anand and his family have shown less attachment to the party’s success and more to personal and familial interests. This situation has led to Anand’s expulsion from the BSP for the second time, following his father-in-law’s retirement.

Mayawati’s firm stance underscores the party’s priority on loyalty and commitment to its cause over individual or family considerations.
