Voting in 59 Wards of Tonk Municipal Council, Boycott in Ward 2

JAIPUR। Voting will take place in 59 out of 60 wards of Tonk Municipal Council, while villagers of Dardahind village in Ward 2 are firm on boycotting the election. Collector Tina Dabi and several officials held talks with the villagers for hours to persuade them to participate in the election.

A total of 99 nominations have been withdrawn in the Tonk Municipal Council area. Candidates came to the district collectorate to withdraw their nominations by 3 pm. Dardahind village has been included in the municipal council and placed in Ward No. 2, where villagers have decided to boycott the election.

Villagers of Ward 2 opposed the decision to include their village in the municipal council and decided not to participate in the election. Despite the administration's efforts to explain, the villagers did not agree. Seema Khetan said that despite considerable persuasion, the villagers of Ward 2 remain firm on boycotting the voting.

Collector Tina Dabi and several officials held talks with the villagers for hours, but no consensus was reached. All four candidates withdrew their nominations. This has put the election process in Ward 2 in a different situation.

Voting will take place in the other 59 wards of the municipal council. After the withdrawal of nominations, a total of 99 candidates have withdrawn their candidacy in Tonk Municipal Council.

This was the last day for nomination withdrawal in urban local body elections in Rajasthan. Leaders of the two major parties, BJP and Congress, were engaged in persuading rebel candidates. BJP and Congress assured the rebels of adjustment within the organization or other responsibilities.

In Udaipur as well, it was the last day for nomination withdrawal in local body elections, where many candidates withdrew their nominations. Congress district president Fatehsingh Rathore and senior leaders persuaded independent candidates and appealed to them to withdraw nominations in the party’s interest.

A team from BJP, along with supervisors, was also engaged in persuading rebel candidates. Candidates from both parties have started campaigning, and election offices are open in almost all wards of the city.

In Jaipur district, elections will be held in 690 wards of 19 urban local bodies. After nomination withdrawal, 3,291 candidates remain in the fray. Jaipur Municipal Corporation saw the highest number of 22 candidates withdrawing their nominations. Several candidates also withdrew nominations from Chomu, Shahpura, Chaksu, Dudu, Jamwaramgarh, and Phagi.

The final number of candidates will be clear after the completion of nomination withdrawal. After that, election symbols will be allotted on September 4.
