Out-of-control car hits bike and three autos in Malad, driver arrested

In Malad West, Mumbai, around 8 pm on Sunday night, a speeding car hit a bike and three auto-rickshaws parked at a traffic signal. The police arrested 70-year-old driver Krishna Chamankar on charges of negligence and speeding. A woman riding the bike died in the accident and seven people were injured.

According to the police, Krishna Chamankar was driving the car. He stated that instead of applying the brakes at the time of the accident, he accidentally pressed the accelerator. After that, the car went out of control and hit the bike parked at the signal from behind with great force. Priyanka Satra was riding the bike with her husband. The impact was so strong that both fell down. Priyanka died on the spot, while her husband and six others were injured.

The car also hit three auto-rickshaws along with the bike, injuring their drivers and passengers. The police registered a case against Krishna Chamankar and arrested him. Medical tests found no alcohol in the driver's blood.

The entire sequence of the accident is captured on CCTV footage, showing the car colliding with vehicles parked at the signal. After the collision, chaos broke out at the intersection.

The victim's family has demanded strict action against the driver. Some family members have alleged special treatment of the driver in police custody, which the police are investigating. CCTV footage from the police station is also being reviewed for this.

Priyanka Satra has been identified as a law graduate and married woman with two children. Her husband suffered fractures and back injuries and has been admitted to the hospital.

The police first produced Krishna Chamankar before a magistrate and later granted him bail on a cash bond of Rs 15,000.
