Trump's First Choice is PM Modi, Meeting Possible at G20

JNN। US Ambassador Sergio Gore has said that US President Donald Trump considers Prime Minister Narendra Modi his close friend. Trump wishes to meet Modi during the G20 summit to be held in Florida in December. Trade between the two countries is about 240 billion dollars and aims to increase it to 500 billion dollars.

Relationship between Trump and Modi

Sergio Gore said that the personal relationship between Trump and Modi is strong. He said, "If President Trump is asked that 35 people are coming for the summit and whom he would like to meet, then Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name will be at the top." Gore also said that Trump still remembers his India visit in 2020 and recalls his relationship with Prime Minister Modi.

Gore said that in the coming time, not only the foreign minister but many other cabinet-level officials from the US will also visit India. He said, "Relations between India and the US are continuously strengthening and the scope of cooperation between the two countries is constantly increasing."

Trade and Strategic Partnership

The US Ambassador said that trade between India and the US is about 240 billion dollars. Both countries aim to increase it to 500 billion dollars in the coming years. Gore said that the US wants to work with a strong and stable India.

He said, "The defense relationship between India and the US is not limited to the purchase and sale of weapons but is based on trust." Gore mentioned the recent Javelin missile project deal and Apache helicopters.

Gore said, "It is normal for such a large trade agreement to take time." He expressed hope that the agreement will be finalized in the next few months.

Gore cited India's long trade negotiations with the European Union as an example and said that they are far ahead in the India-US deal. He said, "The rapidly developing India-US relationship could be a subject of envy for other countries."

Congratulations to Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for being the longest continuously serving prime minister.

Gore expressed hope that during the G20 summit in Florida in December, Prime Minister Modi will visit the US and meet President Trump. However, there are still three to four months left for this event and no official announcement of any bilateral talks has been made.
