Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the phone with District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar on September 3 about the flood situation in Varanasi. He inquired about the rising water levels of the Ganga, affected areas, and arrangements being made in relief camps, and directed that relief work be carried out on a war footing.

The Prime Minister instructed that affected people should not face any difficulties and that full readiness be maintained in relief efforts. He asked the District Magistrate about the availability of food, drinking water, and other essential facilities in the relief camps.

He directed that where there is an additional need for relief materials, arrangements should be made immediately and assistance should be delivered quickly to the affected people.

According to the Central Water Commission, the warning level of the Ganga in Varanasi is 70.26 meters and the water level is rising at a rate of about 2 centimeters per hour.

For security, police personnel have been deployed on routes leading to the Ganga to prevent any untoward incidents. Boat operations have been banned from Assi Ghat to Keshav Ghat, and strict monitoring is being maintained on river traffic.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread weather activity in eastern Uttar Pradesh from September 3 to 8.
