Nepal's Foreign Minister Denies Demand for Compensation from India

DIGITAL DESK। Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has clarified that no demand for compensation has been made from India, China, or the United States following the recent devastating floods. He stated that New Delhi has maintained contact with Kathmandu since immediately after the disaster and all possible assistance is being provided.

After the devastating floods in Nepal on August 26, the Nepal government has denied reports that it demanded climate compensation from India and several other countries. He explained that Nepal's appeal has been to the global community to view this disaster from the perspective of climate change and to understand its impact on Nepal.

Khanal said that China, India, and Nepal share the same environmental ecology and the Himalayas are affected by climate change. He said, "We are ready to cooperate to jointly protect our civilization, heritage, culture, and future."

The Nepalese Foreign Minister stated that India has been in continuous contact with the disaster-affected areas since immediately after the disaster and has provided all kinds of assistance. He said, "Our discussions have continued as needed and the Indian government has fully supported our initiative. In the future, when new needs arise, we will contact them and they are ready to provide assistance."

According to Khanal's statement, the global community should not view this disaster as a one-time event or just immediate aid, but should pay attention to the serious effects of rising temperatures and climate change worldwide.

Large-scale search, rescue, and rehabilitation operations are ongoing in flood-affected areas of Nepal. During this time, India has provided humanitarian aid by sending emergency rescue equipment, modular bridges, water pumps, and essential relief materials.

The Nepalese Foreign Minister has called on the global community to unite and cooperate on the increasing impacts of climate change in the Himalayan region.

Neither I nor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or any other person in the Nepal government has demanded compensation from India, China, the United States, or any other country
