Former Congress-BJP Councillors Contest as Independents

BUNDI। In the Bundi Municipal Council elections, several former councillors of Congress and BJP and their relatives are now contesting as independent candidates. Despite the efforts of senior leaders of both major parties, these former councillors are in the fray after being denied party tickets. This has led to triangular contests in many wards.

In Ward 52, BJP councillor Harishankar Saini had sought a ticket for his wife Rekha Saini, but since this seat is reserved for a general woman candidate, BJP did not give the ticket. Rekha Saini is now contesting as an independent candidate. BJP has given the ticket from this ward to Yash Modi, son of former chairman Mahavir Modi, while Ramveer is also an independent candidate.

From Ward 27, BJP has given the ticket to local Bharat Sharma, while former leader of opposition Mukesh Madhwani is contesting as an independent. There are a total of five candidates in this ward, including former independent councillor Hariom Gurjar.

In Congress, former councillor Devaraj Gochar had applied for a ticket from Ward 54, but Congress gave the ticket to Bhartaram Gurjar. Two independents and an Aam Aadmi Party candidate are also in the fray in this ward.

From Ward 44, Congress has given the ticket to Suresh Kumar, while former councillor Ankit Buliwal decided to contest as an independent after being denied a ticket.

From Ward 1, Rohit Bairagi, a former Congress councillor, his mother Prabhat Devi did not get a ticket, so she is contesting as an independent candidate.

The first Congress chairman of the city municipal council, Sadakat Ali’s wife Saroor Begum was a councillor. This time, their family’s nephew Jishan sought a ticket from Congress but is contesting as an independent from Ward 17 after being denied a ticket. Congress has given the ticket from this ward to Zahir Mohammad.

The persuasion of senior leaders of both major parties could not stop these rebel candidates from contesting. Meena is also contesting as an independent from Ward 17, making it a triangular contest for this seat.
