Kidambi Srikanth Secures Place in Quarterfinals

In the China Masters Super 750 badminton tournament, India's Kidambi Srikanth defeated Canada's Victor Lai in straight sets to enter the quarterfinals. The match started at 3:28 PM on September 3 and lasted about 38 minutes. Srikanth won the first set 21-18 and the second set 21-19.

Srikanth made a strong comeback after trailing 3-7 in the first game and leveled the score at 8-8. The Canadian player took a two-point lead by the interval, but the Indian player came back to 15-15. Srikanth gained an 18-16 lead with a cross-court smash. He finally won on the second of three match points.

Victor Lai won a bronze medal at the World Championships last month and is ranked ninth in the world. Srikanth will now face Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu in the quarterfinals.

In women's singles, India's Tanvi Sharma lost a three-set match to Japan's ninth-ranked player Tomoka Miyazaki. After losing the first set 17-21, she won the second set 21-18 but lost the third set 16-21.

In mixed doubles, India's Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto were eliminated from the tournament after losing 18-21, 18-21 to the pair from Chinese Taipei.

In this tournament, Lakshya Sen was also knocked out in the first round by Victor Lai. He lost the match 14-21, 7-21.

This match was special for Kidambi Srikanth as he had also reached the final of the US Open Super 300 earlier this year. He is a 33-year-old experienced player and has been performing excellently recently.
