Himachal High Court Orders Sri Ganganagar Collector to Appear on September 23

SHIMLA। The Himachal Pradesh High Court has ordered the District Collector of Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, to personally appear in court on September 23, 2026. This directive was issued during the hearing of a contempt petition related to compliance with a rehabilitation order. The court granted the collector exemption from personal appearance in this hearing, but made attendance mandatory on the next date.

The division bench of Chief Justice Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Chirag Bhanu Singh clarified that the District Collector must appear before the court on September 23 under all circumstances. If he fails to appear, strict punitive or coercive measures may be taken.

The application stated that local body elections have been announced in Rajasthan and scrutiny of nomination papers is underway, increasing the collector’s administrative workload. For this reason, he was exempted from personal appearance in the current hearing.

This case has come before the court as a contempt petition related to compliance with a previous High Court order. Proceedings regarding the implementation of the rehabilitation order are ongoing. The collector was also exempted from personal appearance during the Monsoon Session of Parliament in July 2026.

In the next hearing, the collector will have to be present in court and clarify the status regarding compliance with the order. The court has shown no leniency on this matter and has indicated the possibility of strict action.
