Farmers Protest Over Irrigation Water Shortage in Jaisalmer

JAISALMER। Angered by the severe shortage of irrigation water at RD 1120 of Indira Gandhi Main Canal in Jaisalmer, farmers held a strong protest on Thursday. They expressed their anger against the Canal Department and demanded full water supply to the tail area.

Farmers said that the region's agriculture is entirely dependent on the canal system. Due to water not being released as per the fixed quantity in the canal, Kharif crops have started wilting due to lack of water. The crops are on the verge of drying up because of intense heat and water shortage, which is undermining the farmers' hard work and expenses.

The protesters warned that if the Canal Department does not immediately increase the water quantity, the farmers' movement will be intensified. They said that if a permanent solution to the problem is not found, an indefinite sit-in will be held at the RD point.

Farmers have strongly demanded immediate intervention from the district administration and senior officials of the Canal Department to ensure full water supply to the tail area. At this time, water is urgently needed for the ripening of crops.
