Weather changes in Punjab-Chandigarh, heavy rain likely

Due to weather changes in Punjab and Chandigarh, rain occurred in several areas, providing relief from heat and humidity. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain on September 4 and 5, while a yellow alert has been issued in Chandigarh. Rainfall during the monsoon season has been recorded 34% less than normal.

Heavy rain is likely on September 4 in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Nawanshahr, and Mohali. Light to moderate rain may occur at some places in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala. There are also chances of rain at one or two places in Tarn Taran, Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, and Mansa.

The state's maximum temperature dropped by 0.1 degrees, recorded at 36.6 degrees in Bathinda. Rain occurred in Chandigarh and Ludhiana, but it did not reach record levels. Light to moderate rain is expected in Punjab until September 9.

The total electricity demand in Punjab was 11,944 megawatts, while production was 3,799 megawatts. Electricity of 8,146 megawatts was drawn, which is 68 megawatts more than the scheduled amount. On September 3, daytime electricity demand had crossed 15,000 megawatts.
