CM Vijay's Speech on ED Sparks Uproar in Tamil Nadu Assembly

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s speech in the Legislative Assembly, which included allegations involving the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and criticism of opposition parties, led to a heated uproar and the eviction of DMK MLAs. The speech was sharply criticized for focusing on personal attacks rather than public welfare, according to members of the opposition.

The Assembly session turned chaotic after CM Vijay accused opposition leaders of corruption, citing ED investigations. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemned the speech, calling it a platform for personal attacks that do not benefit public welfare. They accused the ED of acting as a stooge of the ruling party, pointing to cases such as the gold smuggling charges against Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan.

Opposition members argued that the speech wasted taxpayers’ money and time, especially that of the poor and ordinary people of Tamil Nadu. They said strong political criticism is acceptable only if conducted in a dignified manner outside the Assembly. The DMK was accused of organized financial irregularities, described as 'scientific corruption' by critics, though the party denies any involvement in corruption.

CM Vijay’s speech also drew criticism for body shaming Stalin and for using ED allegations as evidence against the opposition. The opposition demanded that the Chief Minister address these issues responsibly. The session ended with DMK MLAs being evicted amid the uproar.
