Pakistan Warns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia Could Activate Defence Pact

Pakistan has warned that the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia could trigger the activation of a joint defence pact. The country said it is bound by the terms of the Mecca defence agreement and would honour its commitments if Saudi Arabia is attacked, officials stated. India condemned the strikes, describing them as unacceptable.

Pakistan invoked the Mecca defence pact, stating that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all. Officials emphasized that there should be no ambiguity about the joint defence agreement and that Pakistan is bound by its terms and conditions. They added that if the Houthis attempt to export aggression, the clauses of the pact to counter such threats would become operative. The government also remarked that there is no need to respond to a brick with a stone, indicating a measured approach despite the warnings.

India condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, calling the strikes unacceptable. The condemnation reflects growing concern over the escalating conflict and its potential to destabilize the region further.
