Elderly Biker Dies After Colliding with Stray Animal in Sonipat

JAGRAN CORRESPONDENT। An elderly biker died in a road accident near the village Nagar in Sonipat. 62-year-old Shiv Kumar died on the spot after being run over by the wheel of a speeding trailer. Villagers have raised questions about the administration's negligence.

Shiv Kumar, who lived in Chopra Colony, was riding his bike from Sonipat towards Gohana late in the evening. Several stray animals were sitting and standing in the middle of the highway near village Nagar. At that moment, one animal collided with the bike, causing him to lose balance. He died after being run over by the wheel of a speeding trailer coming from behind.

After the incident, a crowd of villagers and passersby gathered at the spot. The police inspected the site and sent the body to the civil hospital.

Street lights have been installed on the divider in the middle of the highway for about seven years, but they have not been connected to electricity. As a result, these lights remain off at night, and the area stays dark.

Villagers say that the administration neither turns on these lights nor catches the stray animals to send them to shelters. Panchayat representatives have repeatedly demanded the administration connect these lights, but no action has been taken.

Villagers said that when a rally takes place at the vegetable market near the village, these lights are temporarily turned on. Despite this, the administration has not taken any concrete steps to send the stray animals sitting on the roads to shelters.
