China Seeks Strategic, Long-Term Approach in Ties with India

China has expressed its intention to approach its relationship with India from a strategic height and long-term perspective. The statement came ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India, signalling a push to reset ties between the two countries after seven years.

Beijing said it aims to increase communication, expand cooperation, and properly handle differences with India. This approach was described as essential for advancing bilateral relations and fostering stability.

The upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping will focus on key issues including the Arunachal border dispute, a major dam project, and broader bilateral ties. The two leaders are set to meet in India after a gap of seven years.

Experts have noted that if India and China can speak in one voice, the world will have to listen, highlighting the global significance of improved ties between the two Asian powers. The expanding BRICS grouping, where both countries play major roles, is seen as a platform for enhancing supply chain security and fostering development-chain resilience.

Recent talks held in Beijing on August 25 resulted in an eight-point consensus, with both sides agreeing to advance discussions on cooperation and mutual interests. This development is viewed as symbolic of China-India ties finally turning a corner.

China’s stated goal includes building resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability in its relationship with India. The visit and discussions are expected to yield an early and substantial harvest in terms of diplomatic progress and practical outcomes.
