In the history of ODI cricket, many batsmen have played brilliant innings, yet their team lost. These five innings left a mark not only as personal records but also as a poignant memory for cricket fans. These batsmen scored big on their own, but victory eluded their teams.

On August 16, 2009, at the Bulawayo ground, Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry played an unbeaten innings of 194 runs off 156 balls. He hit 16 fours and 7 sixes, which at that time equaled the highest individual score in ODIs. Despite this, his team lost.

On February 20, 2007, in Hamilton, Australia's Matthew Hayden played a stormy innings of 181 runs, including 11 fours and 10 sixes. He took the team to a huge total, but New Zealand chased down the target in the final overs.

On June 12, 2025, in Dundee, Scotland's George Munsey played an aggressive innings of 191 runs. Thanks to him, Scotland posted a strong score, but the Netherlands completed the target through teamwork, handing Scotland a defeat.
