Samsung India Cuts 80-100 Jobs Amid Falling Smartphone Sales

Samsung India has cut between 80 and 100 jobs as chip prices have more than doubled and smartphone sales volumes have fallen by 11 to 12 percent, a company source said. The job cuts include offroll employees hired through manpower agencies in the electronics business.

The reduction in workforce affects up to 25 percent of Samsung India's sales and marketing staff in the electronics division, including those on offroll contracts. The company is responding to the challenging market conditions caused by rising component costs and declining demand for smartphones. Experts note that the global semiconductor shortage and inflationary pressures have led to increased chip prices, which have more than doubled recently.
